Default what mpg do i get and i have a brake question to

We got my grandpas late 70s dually its all stock with the banks inter cooler its 2x4 with stock sized tire, But the motor, tranny and rear end has been fully rebuilt so i was wonder what mpg do theses trucks get. And also the brakes have been rebuilt but when we took it for a short test ride the front driver brake was smoking, any idea on how to fix this i think its not returning like it should

late 70's trucks didn't come with a cummins engine...

dodge didn't start putting cummins engines in the trucks till 1989.

so it would be impossible to say what mpg you might expect to see when we have no clue how that truck is configured or what engine is in it.

there are 5 major generations of cummins engines.

5.9L 12v engine with VE pump with h1c turbo
5.9L 12v engine with P7100 pump hx35 turbo
5.9L 24v engine with VP44 pump HO or SO with with either HY35 or HX35 turbo
5.9L 24v engine with CP3 pump and common rail injection with either HE341 or HE351
6.7L 24v engine with CP3 pump and common rail injection + VGT and emissions junk.

Well that Banks intercooler isn't stock either, it's likely that someone added it along the way.

that was a 1 year option in 1978 and its naturally aspirated...no turbocharger. so his having a turbo means its either a cummins retrofit, some other diesel retrofit, or its just got a lot of custom aftermarket parts on it...

if you want to know fuel economy...drive it around and hand calculate it

xxx miles divided by yy gallons = average mpg of mixed driving.

as for brakes: is it 4 wheel drum, or does it have disc in the front?

if disc in the front and its dragging on one side, you probably need new calipers.

if its drum in the front, probably just need to adjust the brakes.

no the banks is stock because under my 3500 badge it has on that says powered by banks or something. And it has disc up front and it already has new caliper and it still smokes which is weird . And yeah i know the equation for mpg, but this thing has one BIG *** tank and theres no way we can afford to fill it, thats why i was hopen to fine something with the same truck who knew

Did someone twist the rubber hose to the caliper or damage it by crushing it or dropping the caliper and letting the hose stop the fall? I have seen rubber hoses not let the pressure release from the caliper.

so if I stick a Honda emblem on it does that mean Honda made it?

banks is NOT stock. nor is that badge.

banks products come with that badge so you can slap it on the side of your truck and advertise for them, just like BD pruducts come with a sticker. trust me its not stock.

so being an 89 it has a VE pump cummins in it with a h1c turbo.

as for MPG you don't have to fill the whole tank to figure it out.

fill it to the neck with fuel...drive it around for a little while and burn maybe 1/4 tank and fill it to the neck again.. then do your calculation again. should give you an accurate figure.

should be around 17-22mpg though.
