Default Ram won't lock in park HELP

Sorry if I posted this twice but not sure what section to post in.
Okay guys i'm new here and may be posting in the wrong section but if you can solve my problem it would be very helpful

Just purchased a 2004 3500 dually diesel with 80,000 miles and the transmission won't engage park. I thought it was a simple shift cable adjustment because the dash indicator also would not go to park. So I adjusted the cable and now the dash indicator shows the transmission in park but the transmission isn't. I check the function of the shift lever on the transmission and it looks okay. It appears the park pawl is not engaging any help would be GREAT!

I am not sure how that one works. But look at how it moves at the transmission to go into park. Put the truck on stands. Disconnect the cable. Try to shift the transmission itself into park. See if the tires turn. If it won't shift into park at the trens then the problem is with the trans. If it will then see if the shifter will go into park. I had a cable break and had to crawl under my old Dodge car and put it in drive so I could get back home. I had a friend mive the shifter so I could see which way the the cable would move. Put it in park and then counted the clicks back to drive. With a newer vehicle it only starts in park or neutral.

Brian,

Were you able to test that vehicle as dub had suggested? Do you have any updates as far as the resolution?

If you are still seeking assistance feel free to PM me your VIN# and I can review if there are any recalls or TSB's related to your concerns.

Hi fellow Canadian
I'm from Newfoundland and rotate back and forth between Canada and Arizona. This truck is Canada bound and I would like to solve this issue before I bring it back to Canada.
If you can check for any recalls it would be appreciated!!
The VIN # is 3D7MU48C14G260491

I have checked the shift cable and it does shift completly from the park position to 1st gear on the transmission, but the trany will not lock in park.

BTW. I also own a 2002 RAM diesel dually
2001 RAM diesel sport

And sold : 1998 Ram diesel
2008 Ram diesel
