Default 1999 3500 5spd

Considering the purchase of a 1999 3500 dually laramie with 5spd manual tranny 2wd and 150,000 miles. What should I look out for? How do these 5 spd trannies hold up?

I got one. check my sig. 140k on it and love it. 20+mpg unloaded and pulls like crazy when loaded. It would be better with 4wd in the winter but chains solve all of my problems and are a whole lot cheaper to maintain than 4wd.
As far as the 5sp ..it works good. I don't abuse it and stay away from 1800 rpm when towing as much as possible. With the 4.10 gears I don't really need to load it up in the gears. It will go up almost any hill in 4th and most in 5th at 2000 rpm.

I've been told that the input shaft needs to be replaced with the larger 1 3/8 as well as upgrade the clutch but so far I've not had one bit of trouble. A buddy has already had syncro in his 6spd at 75 k.

There is an upgrade aftermarket kit available for the output shaft and 5th gear but I haven't got that far yet. Maybe next year.

the trannies are good. My dad has a 96 and still the original clutch in it. And dont worry
about the motor it takes care of itself.
