Hi guys i have a no run condition on a 1997 dodge 5.9 diesel it will run for 5 seconds then shut off i was thinking the lift pump because i cant hear it run when you turn the key to run any other tests that you can do to find out the issue thank you

check fuel pressure from the lift pump...likely not getting fuel.

 

97 will be a 12 valve with a mechanical lift pump mounted on the side of the engine - you won't hear it run because it runs off a lobe on the camshaft, not electricity, so it doesn't run until the engine is turning over.

Definitely check fuel pressure, and look for leaks on the lines.
