Question Blown Tachometer

My tach has blown up. It was coming on and off at random. The other night, the accelerator got stuck wide open and the tach needle went all the way around. Now it's pinned under the little stake at 0 rpm. That truck has some serious revs!!

What kind of a job is it to replace the tach? Should I go to the dealer and if so, does anyone have guess estimate as to cost?

2006 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel.

Press and hold the odometer rest button turn key to on (do not crank). Release odo rest and let the gauges calibrate.

This may temporarily fix the issue but if your truck is an '06 then you probably have a faulty stepper motor on the tach.

Well, I'll be darned! That worked just fine. I know that many '06's have that problem. I called the dealer and he said I'd have to bring it in. They would have done what you said and charged me big bucks for doing the same thing.

I thank you vey much!!
