Question 3500 drw vers 3500 srw need facts

Hi all,

We have a Cedar Creek Silverback fifth wheel that we haul with a 2006 2500 crew cab 4x4 diesel. Total weight is about 21000 and that is 1000 over the gcvw. I added air bags bc it was sagging the truck a little bit. I know it's over weight and I'm not looking to get scolded. We are shopping for a 2008 - 2012 3500 diesel. I would like advice on whether to get a dually or srw. This will be our primary/towing vehicle. I would love to hear from someone who has driven both. Thanks!

Key words ought to be : Hauled with Both

Some states DOT could come in to play (DRW vs SRW). K.

Not to be the 800lb gorilla in the room, but you might try signing up for the Cummins Forum (lot of 3500 folks on there with hauling experience).
I'm a 2500 CTD & Gas 360.

Everyone I've talked with says the duallies tow easier, more stable. However, if you're daily driving it and the width is an issue (parking, etc) then the SRW will tow like your 2500. If you're happy with how it tows, go for the SRW.

Dually is def made to handle the weight. Its not that these trucks cant handle it but its the being able to stop it quickly that is very important. Duallys are a bit different to get used to. Im srw and when I test drove a 12 drw it was much bigger than I was used to not something I couldnt get used to though. If you have problems parking/driving your truck now it wont get any better. I say go test drive a drw and see how it feels.

I toyed with the same issue. I am a fulltimer. I ended up with a 2500. Many sites I looked on all said 3500 dually. I just could not spend that money. And honestly I love the way it tows. I pull a 5th wheel. About 13k.
