just off the top of my head. first thing that might help is check as to which cylinder is the hottest. if all the cyl are over heating means one thing, if its just one might mean something else. just off the top of my head.
Thanks Moe. Your comment made me think....since the truck did heat up after the damage was done maybe the sensor circuit was damaged or possibly needs resetting/replacement. I will try a battery disconnect for a reset. Anyone else been through this before?
that's not going to do anything...
these aren't 1980's vehicle computers... they store the codes in non-volatile memory as in power interruptions does not effect what is stored in the memory. You need a scan tool to clear the codes.
even my 2000 ram won't clear codes by unhooking the batteries...the only thing that does is clear all your stored radio station presets and lose the apps calibration.

If the wiring to the sensor isn't damaged, then it's either the sensor itself or the PCM. Most likely you're going to replace the sensor. For close to $200 labor and who knows how much for the sensor.
That's just my guess though.

Since the truck is still under warranty hopefully I won't have to pull out the wallet. Sounds like you have been here before? Thanks Horatio.
Nope, haven't been there myself, but I'm a mechanic and I've seen it plenty.
At least it's not like a cam position sensor code where it could be a bad sensor, bad wiring, bad pcm, or incorrect cam timing.

Took it to the dealer. Diagnosis, something got caught on the drive-shaft and damaged the sensor. Can't believe an off-road truck can't go off-road! Also can't believe I have to pick up the bill on a 2011 Truck with only 38000 miles on it and an extended warranty. Looking at the prob and the location one would assume this happens on a regular basis. Very poor engineering decision to place an approximately 3 inch probe sticking straight out just waiting to get caught on everything and anything. Why doesn't the warranty or extended warranty, I purchased, cover this? What happened to the 75,000 mile power train warranty? Maybe it's time to take a look at the Ford trucks? My father would roll over in his grave if he heard me say that.
