Default Best model years for Dodge Diesel

I have owned a 1996 Dodge dually diesel in the past and am now on my second ford f250 with the 7.3. Why? Why I switched to ford I have no clue! I was happy with the Cummins engine the way it sounds and performs. I also had a Cummins engine in my big rig. I'm ready to go back to something I don't have to worry about plugging it in just so it runs. However I want a newer model than a 1996. What years were the best dodge diesels made? Ford with the 7.3 was 1999 to 2003. Does Dodge also have certain yrs where they were made better than others?

2007.5 was the first year of the 6.7 (emissions). Up to 07 will have the 5.9

2004.5 through 2007 5.9s are cream of the crop, problem is finding one still in good shape at 10-12 years old. Of corse the pre 1998 12 valve with a manual transmission is considered the "Holy Grail" of all diesel trucks.

2007.5 through 2012 6.7s are reliable but unless deleted suffer from poor fuel economy due to emissions. Adding DEF to 2013+ models brought back fuel economy near 5.9 pre emission models not to mention monsterous torque numbers over 800 lb/ft...
