Default owners manual says no to remote start?

I have an 06 2500 cummins auto and was going through my manual and it stated that I should not put on a remote start.

I have a realy nice one from my previous truck that I had removed for the new one. It is diesel comaptible, it allows you to custom set the wait time. It is a rather expensive model with alarm and other great features. The cost was about 700 (I did not pay that much got it for the install fee of 150). I realy wanted to use it.

Any thoughts is this a dealer thing so you buy there remote start or is it a no no all together. I wanted some info before I go ask the service guys to make sure I am getting a honest answer.

I remember hearing something about this, but I cannot verify what I am about to say, however, I wouldnt put it past DC to put that in there so they make you think you HAVE to buy their remote start when any remote start that is designed for Diesels will work.

I'll keep my eye out, but I remember seeing something about this somewhere but cannot remember the answer

I have to agree with Drew. I could understand if there were glow plugs involved, but thats not the case.
You might want to check with the manufaturer of the remote start and see what they have to say. I can't honestly see what the harm could be, but you what to make sure you do as much homework as possible.

Good Luck!

I actualy have a question about the no glow plug thing on the dodges.. What does it have that heats the block up?? How does it work and does anyone know the wireing for it???

I am actualy wondering this because I could possibily tap a relay into the activation wire of this heating system switching the polarity to a negative and hooking the relay to the wait to start wire on my remote start system. This would cut out the need for the timer.. I hate to have a timer as I would need to set it for like 30 seconds and the truck does not need that much time in the summer months or sping and fall..

Any information on this aspect of the motor would be great.

Thank You
Charles

Charles, all the glow plug does is heat up combustion chamber in the head. then when fuel hits the glow plug it ignites from the heat the glow plug produces. it works off the same type principle the heater grid on the Cummins except the glow plug does not pre heat the intake air charge, only itself and the tiny space inside the head. Glow plugs are good in that you know that cylinder is fireing, however once the temprature comes up it is not needed. and when the glow plug gets damaged that ARE a PITA to get out if they swell or break since the only way to get them then is to pull the head.

I have had my share of head pulls just to get the remains of busted glow plugs from Chevy 6.2's in hummers. in ferds and chebbys this would be expensive since there is less space in the engine compartment to even change them.

with Cummins there is a grid heater that heats up the incomeing air much like a toaster. it is found as a one inch tall block in the intake right before the intake manifold. Since the compression ratio of the cummins engine(17:1) is higher than the ferd international-navistar and the chebby Isuzu offering the fuel usualy ignites from compression alone. however the Cummins engine does have a block heater that can be pluged up to 120v that can aid in extreem cold weather starting, -40F and lower. the grid heater is good for starting the engine alone up to that point, however most guys I know plug the engine up when the temp goes to about the 0F range. just to get the cab heated up quicker for creature comfort.

just remember, glow plugs are the devil[8D]

I thought you couldnt use remote start cuz of the $150- computer key. Would start but since no chip key it would die after three seconds. Just my.02
