Dodge 2006 5.9L Fuel Problem! Maybe?
Hi everyone,
Here is what I know.
Coming home from work I felt my truck shudder. I looked in the side mirror and see white smoke. I let off the accelerator and its goes away.
Now on the home stretch to my house the truck just dies. I put it in neutral, cost to the house, all the while trying to restart it. NO JOY!
The only code I get is "Low Fuel Pressure".
I replace the pressure sensor. Not cheap $280. NO JOY!
I replace the CP3 High Pressure Fuel Pump. Even more Not Cheap. NO JOY!
During the time I am trying to start the truck I notice fuel dripping out of the tail pipe just before the catalytic converter.
The last item I replaced before is the piping for the reticulation system. That's all the piping from the back of the Head and between the fuel filter and CP3 Pump. NO JOY!
I finally think maybe I have a mechanical problem, Cam, timing gear, something like that. So I shoot a little starting fluid in the breather. Runs just long enough to burn the starting fluid and that's it.
I hope this is enough information for you to at least point me in the right direction.
Important note: I have replaced all the injectors about 3 months. Not to say they are not the problem. Just covering all the bases.

I don't think so. When I crack the line to the fuel rail it sprays everywhere. I can hear the pump working.
Besides I have a dual fuel system with its own fuel lift pump and I think the odds of both lift pumps failing at the same is astronomical. Forgot to mention the duel tanks on my truck.

(: Yea, I know its not a good idea to put starting fluid in the diesel. I just had to know that it was not anything mechanical.
I just put the injectors in about 3 months ago so I am really hoping its not them. But it could be. Would one injector leaking let enough pressure out to keep the other from atomizing?
I guess I am going to have to invest in a High Pressure Gauge. This is the one tool I have been trying to avoid buying because you just don't use it that much.

The low pressure side is 12-14 psi. None of the auto parts store in Cleveland TN have a gauge set that I can rent that goes any where near the 23,206 psi the high side should make.
I will have to buy one. That will take me a few days to get one in.
Here is some new information. Some where during my starting and testing the truck the PCM has sent me some new code data. I am wondering if I have a bad PCM/ECU? Maybe a open circuit or bad ground?
I know about the cooling fan code. I disconnected it to see if I had a bad fan clutch.
