Default 97 47re problems

Today I was pulling my trailer across town. When I got home I pulled in my drive and got ready to back into my spot. I put the truck into reverse and nothing would happen. The engine speed dropped when I put it in gear. All forwards gears work perfectly. It’s an auto btw. When I was trying to get reverse to work I got to close to the house to unhook the trailer. I tried dragging the truck and trailer back enough. But the rear wheel locked up. I tried everything I could think of to get them unlocked. I thought maybe it was the rear end. So I took the driveshaft out. The rear end spins freely but the trans will only turn going forward. Has anyone else ever had this problem. If so what the hell is wrong with it.

When is the last time the fluid/filter was changed and the bands adjusted?

It’s hasnt been changed sense I’ve owned the truck. But I’ve only had it a few months. Would that make it lock up in reverse and not be able to turn at all. I had my 454 doing a 4x4 burnout on my driveway before I realized the back wheels weren’t turning.

Sounds like perhaps a planetary gearset has failed.
