heater control valve

Default heater control valve

I have a 2001 Dodge Cummins 2500
Cabin heat issue
Is there an easy way to check/test to see if heat control valve is full opening from cold to hot???

Also is there a cabin air filter??
Where is it located???

No cabin air filter.

No control valve for coolant flow either. However, A known problem on the 00 and newer trucks is the coupler between the blend door (that controls air temp) and the little stepper motor that drives it, it likes to crack/break, and then you don't have good temp control. HeaterTreater.net makes a METAL replacement, that permanently solves the problem.

Is there any chance you would have a pic of the part and a diagram showing location???
Any idea how big of a job it is to change the part???
Approximate amout of time to change the part???
Do you know approximate cost of part in Canadian funds??

I have tried to search different things about it on google.
I get a few pics related to 01 Dodge Ram and a bunch of other pics for totally different makes of vehicles but not enough consistent info to locate and estimate the task at hand...

Thanks in advance for any additional info you may be able to provide.

The stepper motor is on the bottom of the heater box, inside the cab, just to the passenger side of the trans tunnel. (I don't have a pic..... my truck doesn't have one.)

This is the part you are looking for.

It's only two screws, and an electrical connector. The screw on the forward side, (between the stepper motor, and firewall) is rather fun to get to. Most folks cut the carpet a bit, to make it easier to get to, and use a bent screwdriver to take it out. You have to re-index the stepper motor, then put it all back together. The whole job shouldn't take more than an hour.

Looks like a fairly easy repair
The 1 screw appears to be a bit of a pain otherwise pretty straight forward repair..

I am located in Canada
Was wonder if you could recommend any place to get the part or if the part is basically only available through heater treater???

how can you test this before you tear it apart ?

I think the only sure way to know, is drop the little motor, and see if the coupler is cracked/broken. While the motor is out of the way, put vice grips on the axle, and turn it the full length of its rotation. Try it with the heater on, (engine fully warmed) and see what your outlet temps do. A pain to pull the little motor, but, aside from that, it's a free test. (don't move the temp **** while the motor is out.......)
