Default Fuel pump location

Greetings, I'm new to the site and am relatively new to diesels but not to mechanics. My question is, on 1999 dodge ram 2500 cumins w/ 5speed (build date 09/98). Was the factory lift pump installed in the tank or on the fire wall? Thanks

In the tank. Welcome to DF!

They are notorious for being inadequate to the task too.....

Thanks for the welcome and the answer. Now it's time for some investigation, as I have a lift pump on the fire wall also. I need to determine what type is on the wall and if the one in the tank is still fuctioning still or has been disabled. I'm going to install a Fass system and need to know what I'm dealing with before hand.

Grab the 98-99 Service manual for your truck from here. That will show you what your fuel system is supposed to look like, in stock form.
