04 2500 CTD 4X4 QCAB, GETTING HARMONIC VIBRATION AT 35MPH +, ESPECIALLY AT 68-75MPH. CAN DUPLICATE VIBRATION IN DRIVE POWER BRAKING UP TO 1300 RPM'S +, DEALERSHIP HAVE REPLACED BEARINGS IN REAR END AND COMPLETE REAR END ASSEMBLY, DRIVE SHAFT AND YOKE, MOTOR MOUNTS, REMOVED FRONT DRIVE SHAFT AND ROAD TESTED AND STILL HAD SAME VIBRATION. ENGINE ALSO HAS EXCESSIVE BLACK SMOKE ON ACCELERATION AND PINGING NOISE AND RUNS ROUGH AT IDLE AT TIMES, ENGINE RAN QUIET WHEN FIRST PURCHASED AND AFTER 3000 MILES IT SOUNDED LIKE A 2000 MODEL. BEEN FIGHTING WITH DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS SINCE 3000 MILES ON TRUCK NOW HAS 40000 MILES..... IS THERE ANY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH INJECTORS ON THESE. 325 HORSE.

tell you what bro. . .get a 32oz bottle of Power Service in the Grey bottle and pour it into the tank when you have about 1/4 left. then procede to run the snot out of it. Find the longest, steepest hill you can and go ape on that throttle and put it to the floor. do this a few times and then fill up and see what happens.

I'm willing to say that you have a few issues. #1, theres carbon on the injectors, this will help get rid of it, #2 the boost maping in the ECM needs to be re-calibrated and this will do it as well.

with the vibration. . .I'm wondering if your wheels are out of ballance or bent. . .not the rubber, but the metal

THE VIBRATION WILL GO AWAY IN NEUTRAL AT 70 MPH.. AND IT OCCURS WHEN POWER BRAKING AROUND 1300RPMS+. DEALERSHIP HAS ARLEADY GONE THRU 3 SETS OF TIRES AND WHEELS. PROBLEM STILL THERE. COULD IT BE THE HARMONIC BALANCER?

I have a 06 Ram Sport QC Hemi short bed 4x4 and I get a vibration when I accelerate and hit 1200RPM's. I have yet to take it to the dealer though. I only have 2000 miles on my truck and it started vibrating around 500 miles ago. I want to find out what it is before I take it in and have them change/replace everything. I am wondering what it is since CTD's and Hemi's are getting it. I think I see a recall coming in the future.

Anyone hear anything about the auto trans torque converter balance being a problem? I saw this on one of the Truck shows on TV...
I have a Harmonic vibration that starts at about 70 mph.
05 CTD, auto, 4x4

I have run into a similar problem with two different GM cars, one diesel and one gas. The problem was caused by broken vanes in the torque converter.

Power braking with the truck standing still?
That is a huge clue that the problem is engine or trans. Nothing behind that is spinning.

WOW! Glad I found this thread...I was going to ask about this harmonic buzz....

I have a 2004 QC 4x4 CTD and starting at about 67-72 MPH I get this slight sort of droning buzz as well. There is a very, very slight vibration to it, enough that you can just barely detect it in the rear view mirror and feel it in the steering wheel (I wouldn't really call it a vibration as much as I would a buzz), but the droning sound is what drives me nuts. It's a sort of deep whah whah whah. On a long trip this can get quite annoying. It goes away at around 75 MPH, so on long trips I'm either doing 65 or 75 and try to avoid speeds in between that.

I took it to my local dealer and I was told this is a harmonic caused by the engine/rear end combination and there is nothing I can do about it.

Needless to say, for a $40,000 truck I wasn't too happy about that. At 65MPH the thing just cruises so smooth and quiet it's hard to believe it's a 3/4 ton diesel truck, but hit 67 to 70 MPH and it quickly reminds you....

I'm going to be lifting my truck and adding larger wheel/tires (which is going to be a whole other thread of questions from me) and I am hoping the larger diameter wheel/tires will kick the RPM's down enough that I can cruise at 70 without getting the droning buzz.

Still, I'll put up with it before I'll buy a Ford Powersmoke

Ok guys has anyone been able to solve this issue? I just purchased a 2004 QC short bed and it has this harmonic/vibration at 65+ mph. I asked the dealer about it and they said it is known by DC and they are working on the problem but, there is no solution and they are not sure what the problem is.......not very reassuring!
I took it to a driveline shop and they said there seems to be a harmonic between the engine and the driveline. I asked what he thought the solution to fix was and he indicated there was nothing he could do. It appears in his opinion that it is an engineering flaw.....

This good news .... I took mine in last week to the local stealership and asked them to check for a small driveline vibration between 65 and 70 mph , not bad but noticeable.. Service writer was rude , told me "they can't get them perfect" Then proceeded to ask me to move my truck so a couple of his mechanics could get a customers car out of a bay to drive to lunch... It has been a week and I am still so pissed. I am going to contact Dodge about him and the dealership but was going to cool down a bit before making a call and writing a letter.
One thing is for sure , I will not buy anything from them, ever. At this point there is nothing they can do to make this right with me.

OK through venting, thanks for listening and hope something comes of this problem.
