Default Temp gaue 2000 ram 5.9 cummings not working

Just replaced radiator thermostat and coolant temp sensor. Getting a P0118 code. Checked voltage on sensor wire and getting 5.45 volts. I know it's suppose to be around 5 v. Ground is .5 ohms. Checked connections cleaned and made sure none were bent or damaged. Wire looks goodHad a ck engine light but when I made sure the connection was tight it went out????? Any help will be appreciated .

That is voltage high..... So, a short somewhere?

If the lite went out, did the gauge start working properly?

The way it works is, the PCM sends a 5 volt signal to the sensor, sensor is just a variable resistor, don't remember if resistance goes up or down with temp...... If you have a scanner that can read live data, see what the PCM thinks engine temp is, start wiggling the harness between the sensor, and the PCM, until it changes. (don't even need the engine running.) That will get you rather close to where the problem is.
