DEF pump national backorder BS?
I have a 2017 RAM 2500. Recently the "Service DEF System" message popped up along with the 150 miles until max speed limited to 5MPH message. The dealer diagnosed it as a bad DEF pump but said the pump was on national backorder and they have no ETA on when it would be available. WTF? So I have an unusable truck for who knows how long. I asked if they could use aftermarket etc... but said warranty requires they use their distributor. I called a few other RAM dealer parts departments and asked if the part was available and all of them told me they had plenty and could have it next day. This all sounds like some kind of scam to get me to just buy a pump so Stellantis doesn't have to cover it? Seems awfully fishy to me. I then called my dealers service dept. and shared what I found. I asked what the deal was. They put me on hold for a few min and came back and said it looks like they were just released this morning we will have yours in a day or 2. Really. No way I believe this is true. Something is up here.
Has anyone else had something like this happen? This may be the last RAM/Stellantis product for me.I hope its just a coincidence but I am not a big believer in them.

Dealer should be able to use their network, to get one shipped to them from another dealer. We used to do that all the time at the chevy dealer, and that was back in the 90's...... If one of the other dealers has one in stock, I would be real tempted to drive there, have THEM diagnose it, and repair as necessary.
The other dealers didn't have any in stock but had them at the distribution center. They all said they could have them in a day or 2 at most. And they confirmed that my dealer should be using the same distribution center.
Talk to the service manager at your dealership then, and point out to him what you have learned. See what he has to say. or maybe talk to the parts manager... or both... General manager of the dealership may not be a bad idea either.....
I did and now they say my part was just released this morning and should be here in a day or 2. This is 30min after I left there and they told me no ETA. Seems awfully fishy to me.
They have been telling me for almost 3 weeks no ETA but the day I find out and mention to them they are available mine all of a sudden will be available? The other dealer part depts. said they were not aware of any backorder. Is it because it was a warranty job? I did not tell the parts guys that it was for warranty.
Hopefully it actually shows up.

Went to pick it up last night after the DEF pump replacement (Still no salesman tried to sell me a new one). When I started the truck the SEL light was one and a mile down the road got the "50 Miles until max speed limited to 5MPH". Went straight back and now they say the DEF injector and injector line needs to be replaced. All under warranty except the fact that the injector bolts are rusty. According to them the manufacturer does not cover rusted bolts and the time it takes to repair them in the event they break? Has anyone ever heard of that? Its not a big deal but it seems odd and I have never heard anything like that before. Is it normal?
That's the dealer trying to extract money from you. You have a 'new vehicle' warranty, the parts that need replacement are covered under said warranty. If they break bolts, that's on the guy doin' the wrenching, not you. I would like to think the bolts are covered under warranty as well.
Were they charging folks for removing broken exhaust manifold bolts? No? Well then, there's the answer.
