Default 2001 cummins in 2003 and newer body

Hello. I'm wondering how difficult it will be to put my low mileage 2001 24 valve into a newer 2003 and above. My truck was just totalled, but engine and transmission are fine. Thank you

General terms it should just bolt in fine, might need some custom radiator and charge air hoses ect to fit the 3rd gen cooling stack.

It would be beneficial to start with a cummins truck because the wiring and such will all be present for needed functions. Unfortunatley I think youll need some type of hybrid wiring that uses the 3rd gen cummins pcm paired with the 3rd gen sensors. I dont think you will be able to interface with the 24v ECM.

if doing an auto youll need the 2nd gen pcm and wiring for that.. I would use and 03-05 auto pcm because they ran the vacuum controlled cruise module yet so interfacing the cruise will be easiest that way.

Unfortunately I see no way of doing this without a mess of redundancy and double wiring. The 2nd and 3rd gens have nothing in common other then CID. If you want the 3rd gen for comfort just get a 3rd gen cummins ready to roll. The power possiblites are limitless with a common rail vs a vp44, i mean 500hp with a stock fuel system capable.

Find a clean southern 2nd gen roller for your 24v and swap it

thank you. I was kind of figuring so much. Do you think 2wd body parts will fit on my frame, if mine is still good. The 4wd bodies up here in WA are pretty rotted out. At least the reasonable cost ones. Thank you again.

Body parts are pretty much the same, regardless of number of drive wheels. Only exception would be the floor pan in the cab... Gotta have a spot for the expensive stick.
