I can smell oil but there are no leaks
After I run the engine and come to a stop I can smell the engine oil. There are no leaks anywhere. Has anyone had this problem before or is it normal? I talked to someone and they said it was the blow by tube or pcv like valve coming off of the head, but wouldn't think that I could smell it inside the truck. I also can't smell it if I have the recirculate ac on. I keep checking the oil and there is no change. Any Help?
I get that if I don`t make sure I clean off all the oil after an oil change. Around and under the oil filter. I would look around for oil sitting on something burning off very slowly.
Had the same thing with my '05 diesel. Dealer said that the valve or drain thing on the fuel line water trap had not been fully closed and a little fuel was seeping out. Don't know if that was it, but the problem has gone away.
Are you sure its "oil". Probably its diesel fuel odor---My 05 3500 does the same thing--check this link; http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/ISB/blowby_mod.htm
I was running Delo when i first got the truck. Delo has a real distinct smell and it was definitely the Delo smell. I have recently switched to Amsoil synthetic and the smell has changed. I can smell it mostly on the turbo side of the engine.
it's just the breather
crawl under your truck and look around where the engine and tranny meet, there will be a tube there that vents to the outside. you are sniffing what is coming out of that tube and this is normal for Diesles.
now if you realy want to offend the senses use Rotella T at your next change. . .that stuff is nearly toxic[X(]
