warranty issues
hello, i'am a new member to dodge forum and i have a warranty issue question. i have a 2004 dodge ram 3500 dually 4x4 quad cab high output ctd with 11,000 miles and i want to add an air intake, cat-back exhaust and a performance module. the dodge ram has only been to the dealer for all maintance. if i add the above items will this void my warranty with the dealership? i have talked to many people and some say it will and some say it will not. i don't want to wait until i have 100,000 miles on the engine to add the above items. any help from members will be a big help. signed ramilla1

RE: warranty issues
in short the one that that will void the warranty would be the module. however if you talk to the service manager about it you never know what you'll get out of him. some actualy turn a blind eye to the programmers. others will use the OBDII and scan for any excuse to void the warranty since most programmers leave a fingerprint of their existancee after you pull them off.
the exhaust and intake wont void the warranty. however I would talk to the service manager before you do anything.
However, there are ways around these things. be like me and become your own warranty station.

RE: warranty issues
Adding a module or even reprograming the module will void most of the drive warranty. Most diesel parts such as injectors, lift pumps and injection pumps are a restricted item and when the dealer goes to order them they have to provide diagnostic details to Chrysler. Sometimes even photographs need to be taken to get parts. The problem is the dealer does not know what bad parts read vs new parts vs modified parts and Chrysler knows the difference. So more then likely it will come down to warranty being voided.

RE: warranty issues
I have not seen an aftermarket software leave no traces of footprints. Once new software is introduced in the computer the software level and part number changes. Most programs forget to fill this in with the right software or leaves that part out. The ECM are warranted for 100000 miles so the dealer will be able to tell what software is suppose to be in the ECM and can check updates etc.

RE: warranty issues
I went to my service department hear local and asked about exhaust and air filter kit on my 06 with 3000 miles. They said do not do it, anything not stock will void the warranty if something that is connected to fails. (makes me mad) Although I have seen in post were some guys with new trucks are buying air filter kits and chips, downloaders and such from the dealer. So it depends, where I guess. I am in the same boat I would like to change some minor stuff like filter, exhaust, and chip it to get better mileage. I do not need the drage truck just some towing and economy stuff.

RE: warranty issues
I have never heard of chrysler voiding warranty's for exhaust (if the cat is still intact) or A/F. If you want Call Customer Cair at 800 992 1997 and inquire about the filter and exhaust. This way if they say the exhaust or a/f will be an ok modification, then it will be documented and the repairs will be covered. Just be sure to get the Case number from the person you spoke with.
