band adjustment specs on 05 ctd
band adjustment???
are you talking about the tranny??? you adjust the bands and you WILL F' something up. you want better performance out of the tranny get the valve body groomed for a little more pressure.
trust me on this, I saw a transmission guy with 30+ years experience mess with the bands and roast the 48RE in less than 10 miles.

I always adjust bands in the tranny. When the transmission is assembled the bands are adjusted, right? My brother always adjusted the band in his 01, and got 200k on his trans before the TC gave out. Why are people afraid to adjust the bands? Using quality tools, and factory specs, why would there be a problem?
If you work your CTD any at all, you'll have to adjust your bands around 30k. What you'll notice is a lunging at low rpm's in 2 gear, it'll feel like it is shifting in and out of gear. You have two bands on that tranny, (48re) 1/2 and reverse, only the 1/2 is externally adjusteable. That is the one you probably need to adjust. On the drivers side of the tranny just above the pan you'll see a torx head with a jam nut, back off the jam nut, the torx should tighten freely by hand, tighten by hand until it stops, torque to 72 INCH POUNDS, NOT ft lbs. Then back off 1 3/4 turns, tighten jam nut, being sure that the torx bolt doesn't move from its 1 3/4 turn out position. I don't want to step on any toes here, but adjusting your tranny bands is a MANDANTORY service, and not doing so WILL effect the life of your tranny. If you refer to your owners manual it shows it as a required service interval at 30k along with a new tranny filter and fluid.
This may sound weird but this band adjustment, is it also a service issue on a 2001 1500 ram gasser? when I bought my 05 2500 diesel my brother bought my 01 1500. for about 4 or 5 months we've had a problem with the tranny not wanting to stay in 2nd gear for longer then 1 or 2 seconds no matter how you drive it. It shift from 2nd to 3rd almost immediately. We did a trans service and at the same time replaced the two (I guess pressure valves or whatever they are called) and that didn't do anything. The truck has about 70k on it and we can't nail down the issue. I KNOW THIS ISN'T A DIESEL BUT I FIGURED SINCE I OWN A DIESEL THOUGHT I'D JUST SLIP THE QUESTION IN ANYWAY LOL.

Type of trasmission fluid should not affect band adjustment. Are you running Amsoil Tranny fluid in your CTD? I have a case setting here ready to go into mine, just havent done it yet. As for the 1500, I'm not sure what tranny is in it, I would consult your local tranny shop about that.
I have amsoil in the front and rear diffs (done at 15k) I have it in the transfer case (done at 15k) I now have it in the engine and the transmission (done at 20k)
