When should you clean air filter?
Ok, I have the afe stage 2 with pro guard 7 filter. But when do I know the filter is restrictive enough to warrant cleaning? I thought about drilling the afe intake tube and putting in the factory filter minder. I figure if it moves at all, the filter would need cleaning. What have you guys done? Or maybe a gauge? Vac gauge, or a pressure transducer with a light that comes on when it needs cleaning.
Every time you change oil or when the minder tells you to, which ever occurs first.
With gas engines you can go much farther say 25k miles or so. Diesel engines draw 3 to 4 times as much air and therefore air filters need more frequent service.

I resd something that K&N makes a electronic restriction gauge that has leds to indicate restriction. I want something electronic. I don`t just want to guess at it and clean it all the time. Or maybe I will put a vacuum gauge on it. K&N advertises that the filter should never exceed 15 inches of vacuum. I know I have the AFE, but this is the only info I found. Check this link, and go most the way down the page to SERVICE INTERVAL Wouldn`t it be cool to have a light come on in the cab that says SERVICE FILTER.
