the diffrences in the TCD for model years 2001 and 2002
I have been looking at getting a 2500 quad cab during my research I have discovered that the 01 and 02 2500 didn't appear to be the switch over year to gen3.
I can save more then 10 Grand CAD by getting a 01 with the same or better KMs and equipment.
So my question is what if anything is different between the 01 and 02 year.
Better yet, other then normal after market upgrades to improve on what the dodge gods have created. What should I change to make the 01 better?
This brings me to my next question
I'm not one for noise unless it is tuned and I have heard some good things about the newer ones that seem to get away from the typical diesel sounds.
Could I make the 01 run the same way or is it a bigger change then engine controls
I figure I could get a heck of lot for half of what I save buying the 01
Thanx for your input
Alex

Depends if it is an early '01 or a late '01 (known as an '01.5). The difference between the two, is the later model has disks on the rear. 01.5 is VERY close to an '02 if not identical (except older).
You won't quiet either to the level of a common rail motor without WAY too much expense. If you don't like the noise, don't buy a diesel without common rail technology. On the same note, I'd been a gasser all my life, took me about a month to get used to the noise. 2nd option, put in a killer sound system and you won't have to hear it (this is what I did...).
It is loud (I shut off at drive thrus etc because of it), but again, you get used to it.

02.5 4x4 Diesels (and the rest of the HD trucks) didn't have CAD. They had a true solid front axle...not weakened by the CAD housing. But their driveline components also wore more.
2500/3500 trucks didn't switch to 3rd gen styling till 2004.
