Ive got one better, Ive seen guys dumping the CP3 and tossing in the P7100 pump. it is able to dump more fuel than the VP44 plus it is fully mechanical.

the thing is the ECM is mounted on the engine itself so removeing it is not a problem. I dont know what is involved with hanging the P7100 onto the front cover, I imagine the timeing cover is different and I do know the valve cover is different since the 03's and up have electronics hook-ups and previous generations dont.

a P pumped 24 valve rocks for sure, but if you want a torque monster, swap the 24v head for a 12v head

what is the p7100 off of is it of a 93 and older, i want to swap the vp44 and still run the 24 valve cuz of being able to still run bigger injectors, i dont know if i want to spend the money on a 12 valve head for the torque when i could spend that money on a new turbo?
what is emc
i got an 02 and i want to put the pump off of a early 98(vp44)on it cuz the fuel they can dump out. i dident get your anser about the P7100 being fullt mechanical isint the VP44??

VP44 = '98.5 - '02 This is a mechancal injector firing and timing, fuel rate is electronic (this is the weak one that goes when the LP gets weak)
P7100 = pre '98.5 This is all mechanical, pop in a plate to change the fueling rate, fires injectors mechanically, strong pump, in the 12V had a mechanical LP feeding it.
CP3 = '03 and later, all electronic, for the common rail system, injectors are electonic, fueling rate is electronic, apparently this pump can run without a LP, better to have one though.

There could be more, and I know Drew knows better detail, these are the basics, though.

89-93 used the Bosch VE pump and a mechanical lift pump. 93-98 was the P7100.

the reason I suggested the P7100 is what bat said. the VP44 is renound for it's ability to die when the lift pump dies. the VP44 is lubricated by the fuel that is delivered to it. the VE, P7100, and CP3 are all lubricated by the engine oil. This means they are a good bit more robust, and wont die when the lift pump goes out.

you can still run the 24 valve head with the P7100, that is not uncommon since the only difference with the head is the addition of 2 valves per cylinder. The P7100 you have the ability to adjust the timeing, fuel pressure and fuel rate. the VP44 as Bat said has electronic control over the fuel rate all in the name of emmisions[:'(] (which was the main reason for the 24 valve head. it doesnt flow much more than the 12 valve.

89-93 VE pump (12 valve)

93-98.4 P7100 (12 valve)

98.5-02 VP44 (24 valve) however there are some 24v engines that got the P7100 stock

03-present CP3 (24 valve HPCR)

if your truck is an 02 then you are running a VP44 pump.

I see whats going on. . .I miss typed injector pumps in a post of mine and accidently put the P7100's in the 98.5-02's and the VP44 into the 93-98's. when it is the other way around

I'm such a dumba55[sm=chairshot.gif][sm=bustedsign.gif][sm=headbang.gif][sm=icon_beat.gif]
