14 ft enclosed trailer...my guess about 4000 lbs of old timber.
Had no trouble getting up to highway speed.

My take is more miles ,mpg will get better and a new intake with new muffler will help.

I have an Edge that has the 5 performance settings, #1 being for milage. with 17K on the clock, setting 1 I was getting about 17.5 mpg. With your truck only having 4k on it, you have a ways to go before it's broke in. the cummins motor (from my understanding) takes 20~40k to break in, (someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

Consider a programmer or plug in module...

Edge
bully dog

edit: oh yeah, the more you tow and the harder you drive, the faster it'll break in and milage will creep up. (from what I have learned).

You're not EVEN broke in yet, what the heck do ya want? I thought that patience comes with age!? Give it till 20,000 then whine about it and we'll be there for ya!! What do you think you'd get towing that with a gas motor?
Cheers
Mike

I Finaly saw my MPG increase after I had 25K on it , now after 8 months I have 43K and run about 19.5 Hwy
and around 16 in town... Computer sayz a little higher then that but I rather measure the gallons I use per tank and miles driven.
My advise... thats what I did, load up that trailer with lots of weight and running that B.I.T.C.H. up the longest steepest hill you can find ( after you have 5K on it ) and make sure when your half way up that hill to step on it.... Remember... drive it like you stole it.

good luck

just to rephraise a bit. . .the Cummins engine is like a Fine Wine, it only gets better with age

I just cranked over 28K on mine and the mileage is getting better and better, or it could be some of the mods I have been doing[8D]

every tank I run 16oz Power Service and 8oz MMO, this mix has consistantly given me over 2mpg better then not useing it, then from initial testing a resistor mod I have done to my truck has shown on the computer to be giving me another .5mpg more, but only the pump will tell.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread here, but if the mileage doesn't improve till around 20-30K, then wouldn't it be better to buy a used CTD without having to break it in?

I have 24,000 now and I am still getting 13mpg highway and 9-10 towing. I tow all kinds of campers. It is still better then the D-MAX I had.
