I am looking to buy a used 2003 Ram 2500 with a cummins. The used dealership knows nothing about the Cummins 600. Did they put the 600's in any 2003's and if they did how do you know? I am thinking that you can tell from the VIN but can anyone tell me how to distinguish that? Any other comments would be great also or things to look for. It has 44,000 miles approx. Thanks.
I dont think they came out with the 600 series until 2004. I think your truck just has the 5.9 liter HO diesel with 305 horsepower and 555 foot pounds of torque. It should say the horsepower on the side of the valve cover.
josh is right, the 600's were introduced in 04.5, the advertized HP of these engines are 325. what you most likely have is a 305, 555 engine. those are very good and also get darn good fuel mileage
