Default OEM Hitch

I did some searching and couldn't find any info. I just bought a 2006 2500 Mega Cab with the Cummins in it. I tow a tongue pull Weekend Warrior with a max weight of 11500lbs but it usually is around 8500lbs when we load it up. My question is about the OEM hitch and how much I can tow with it? I would assume I could tow up to the trucks capacity but it looks flimsy compared to the mammoth hitch my 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 came with. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

I had no problems with my '06 2500 CTD MegaCab towing a 30' GearBox over Memorial Day Weekend 2200 miles. I was right around 12500 loaded.

I assume you already have a weight distribution hitch for your travel trailer, slap it in your 06 and take off.

I will agree it does look a bit shy of what has been used in the past, but it is rated for the same weight.

Edit: WOW, three posts in less than a minute. . how do you like that

Thanks for the quick replies. I do have a weight distribution hitch and I feel better about slaping it in and going now. I can't wait to see what kind of difference there will be with the Cummins. I had the V10 for about 8 years. I put a true dual exhaust, towing chip, and air intake on it and it ran like a raped ape in the higher RPM's but the lower RPM range sucked IMO. Hopefully this will be cured with the Cummins.
