Intake Help???
I just tried to find it, and the best price that i came up with was about $228, I guess maybe it was a sale or something, but try your local parts stores and see what they've got. I think my friend said he got his from auto zone for the same price I paid.
when you had the AEM kit on there what happend to your top end? I have an AFE stage 2 kit sitting on my garage floor, I went back to the stock airbox so I have something to compare by. what I found was the afe filter will let the motor breath as much as it wants, top end power is awesome, low end dropped. turbo spool up (with a straight thru exhaust) is pretty damn quick, so quick I frequently overboosted past the 36psi limit I put on it with my edge. the edge was set on the #1 milage setting. if I had the edge on #3 which is the 60 hp range, it'll easily blow past 36 psi in turbo boost. it'll spool up into the 20's in the blink of an eye.
fuel economy was down in the 15~15.7 mpg range depending on how I drove it. Now with the stock filter on, low end torque is back, fuel economy appears to be up closer to 16 mpg w/o trying and the turbo almost never gets close to the 36psi limit set on the edge.
what you should look at is how the truck performed overall, top end may have been much better but perception of low end loss may have had a negative impression of performance.
I suggest you find yourself an open stretch of road and do some performance tests with both air filters. i'm almost 100% sure you'll find the aftermarket will help boost top end performance at the cost of low end torque. My AFE will be going back on soon, after i'm done testing the stock filter with the open exhaust. I may try to get a smaller afe filter to help bring back the low end torque... the afe is definately the way to go for top end performance...

Hey BlkRam69
This is my first time to post on the forum, but have been watching awhile and
I bought a 04.5 CTD 2wd 6 speed w/3.73 about a month ago and put the AEM Brute Force (dry)
on it and it did SEEM to lose low end torque, but the turbo sure does sing now and I
do seem to have better top end. No problems w/ filterminder on tube.
note: No silencer ring, no muffler and sure sounds sweet!
Now for mileage, I'm getting 18 - 19 avg. approx. 50cty/50hwy driving, 65-70mph hwy

Steve00,
I cant say about the boost / fuel press./ or EGT's as I havent got to those yet but all I can say is that for those with the AEM with no probs, Great.
My mpg went down to 15.2-16 from 18.5-20 and both low and high end suffered. Reduced low end and on the high end it just couldnt get it done. Lots of peddle (and rpm's) with the speedo just creepin.
Turbo sound was good but overall truck perf. sucked. Who knows, maybe got a bad filter. Like I said it couldnt have been the tube. I wanted to try a dif. filter but the guy had nothing in stock so I just had to scrap it. I had to go to Chicago this w/e and didnt want to worry. After it came off the truck came back.
As for the trip to Chicago.......
Great!
Bought a drop in filter, Quadzilla (xtra 65 HP non adjustable) perf. module, threw the Bully Dog on top of that at the perf/tow setting (xtra 60 HP) and headed out. MPG on the way up averaged 17.3 (again down from 18.5-20 before chip/tuner/filter) and that was with the last 45 min in bumper to bumper gridlock. HP is great. Top end saw a huge improvement and off the line shell put you in your seat (it did before but its a noticable diff). The truck opens up and between 1800 - 28-3000 RPM's the speedo freaks! Awesome.
I still have the AFE stage II or K&N in mind but for now I'm happy!
Thanks again for all the input.

BlkRam69, can you tell me about adding the quadzilla on top of the bully dog. I've been curious about doing this to my truck, but i'm still not clear about exactly what steps if any need to be taken, or do you just install both of them as normal.
usafr,
I originally had the Bully dog loaded on the truck. (just like you I searched online myself but found little about stacking) so when I got the Quadzilla I completely uninstalled (not just to the stock setting) the BD becouse I wasnt sure if it would have any neg. impact or not.
Installed the Quadzilla which was pretty easy except you can (and I did) hook the fuel sensor up backwards (reversed the plug). I had everything in place, ran the wiring and had it all tied down and it wouldnt start.
Showed water in the fuel on the dash. This was at 1245am!
I just got the module that day and I was going to Chicago (no load) the next morn so I was trying to put it on when I got off work. Anyways, got it hooked up correctly [&:] and took er for a spin. All was good.
You do have to run the module through the firewall (they suggest slicing the rubber grommett around the sterring column wich I didnt want to do but worked out fine) as there module is not element (water/temp) proof.
Then updated the BD downloader and loaded it on the truck on the Tow/Perf. setting and I was off.
The trip was great @ about 700 miles round trip (had to go on in to Indiana to get some fireworks [sm=usa.gif] ) and the truck was awesome. All in all she came in at 19.1 which I thought was pretty good considering all the construction / gridlock. [:@]
So far it's been a good mix. I'm going fishing next week in Missouri which will be close to 1000 miles after its all said and done so I'll get back with ya on the mpg with a light (1800lb.) load.

I bought a Volant Intake for my 06 2500 CTD.....and I must say the Fit quality and ease was all there. I Elimiated the silencer ring at the time of installing the intake, therefore, I did not know which made...THIS THING SCREAM LIKE A Young.............GIRL.........FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!!!...I almost went home to turn it back to stock.......I ebay-ed the intake for $280 Shipped
Blkram69 is right. The filter minder gets sucked to the red everytime I reset it, filter clean or dirty. However, I haven't lost any performance that I can detect IMHO. My mileage has stayed at a rock solid 20+ tank after tank for thousands of miles (i'm averaging over 1,000 miles a week) This is cruising at 70 mph most of the time. It seems that the postioning of the filter minder so far towards the turbo seems to contribute to the pulling into the red every time it's reset. I've run stock, stock with K&N drop in, BHAF, and AEM. They all seemed to perform the same for me IMHO. The Bruteforce setup sure makes the turbo sing! Sounds like a Kenworth!! Keep in mind that the AEM tested flow at 1 atm is 900cfm for the Dryflow filter, and the tubing provided is the same diameter as the stock (4") and is much straighter running intake to turbo. Just my opinions and observations here!!!!!
Cheers
Mike

AEM
Anyone heard of these?
Well I've got one.
The guy talked me into this as it has a dry filter, improves air flow over the oiled, easier and quicker to clean, blah, blah, blah.
Got it on the truck and I noticed an immediate change.
For the worse!!!
Seems like less HP and longer spool up & less / slower throtle response. Now I didnt beat it persay but I did get on like I usually do. Get home, get under the hood and notice the vacuum gauge (from the stock tube) on the new tube is in the red.
So all in all it feels / seems like the truck is getting LESS air. [sm=headbang.gif]
Anyone experiernced this / used the stock vacuum guage on any of your intakes?
Either way this thing is commin off! [sm=bomb.gif]
