air conditioner
I've got a '05 CTD series 2500. When air temps are in the 100 degree and humid range, the truck's A/C is almost as pathetic as it was on the Silverado I traded in for the Dodge. Is anybody else finding this problem? Could it be just my truck or is this just what we have to live with since they changed the type of gas used in a/c systems.
mine is fine in high temps.
now one thing you need to look at is are you driveing at highway speeds or are you waiting at stoplights?
if you look at the front of the truck you will see the AC condencer, then the intercooler, a large space then the radiator, then the fan. there is alot of area and stuff in the way that causes the flow of air across the condensor to be low when in stop and go traffic.

Thanks Drew
I'm talking about the a/c capability at 70 - 75 mph. Perhaps, I just need to run it with the fan set a wide open and if that doesn't cut it, then have the gas charge looked at.

now I'm going far back into memory here so hang with me.
I remember a while back some other people on another forum haveing a problem with the A/C and them haveing to have it basicaly re-charged nearly every year. somewhere in the system there was a VERY VERY slow leak. slow enough that when it was first recharged it would last all summer, and all winter and have the exact same problem the following year when throughout the pervious year the coolant was leaking out.
now what is causeing the leak down I dont know. but if it is found that the system is low, see if they put it under a vacuum and let it sit for a bit to see if the system will hold the vacuum. it could be a hose was manufacturered wrong, or a gasket / seal that has gone bad.

I agree with Drew there's got to be a leak if your having trouble at 70 - 75 mph. We've had a few scorchers so far this year a I don't think I've turned it past the second or third notch. That's on the fresh air setting too. You could store meat in my truck. Definently look into the system something is not right. Also when ever I have my A/C on and I'm driving in town my fan is engaged most of the time. I would make sure your fan clutch is ok as well; wouldn't really effect at high speeds but worth a look or listen (it's pretty loud when it's engaged).
