Wheel Backspacing
I know tire size and truck height is always an iffy topic so I will tell yall want I got and what I am wanting to do. I have an 02 ctd quad cab sort bed 4X4. I have heard that you can fit 35X12.50s with a leveling kit and the right backspacing on your wheels. If anyone has done it or knows someone that has, the info would be greatly be apreciated. I guess what i really need to know is the backspacing that I would need to do this . I am planning on putting 17 inch wheels on it...................................[sm=thanx.gif]
Well, I know on the '06's the backspacing is 6.25 inches - a TON and more than you'll find on any aftermarket wheel. I'm running 35x12.50's on stock 17-inch wheels right now with a leveling kit - works fine. There are other things to consider when changing backspacing on your wheels. Running a wheel with less backspacing will push your tires out, but also put more stress on wheel bearings and steering hardware. I'm sure you could get away with running 5" or so of backspacing, and that would clear those tires even better than stock. But, I'd encourage you to keep stock wheels unless you really can't stand them.
Mikahb,
Does works fine mean no rubbing?? I'm thinking about a leveling kit for my 06, but just haven't gotten to it yet.
I'm running 315/70s on stock rims and I get little rub when turning. The tires were on it from the dealership, and they told me they didn't rub. Well, sitting still, they don't...
I guess it's not a big deal, but I lose a little turning radius.
Was the leveling kit enough to eliminate all rub?

At full right-lock, the passenger side rubs on the upper control arm. Not enough to hurt anything, just noisy. No rub turning to the left. I suspect part of it is that I need to put in an adjustable swaybar to re-center the axle. The leveling kit is enough to eliminate all but that little bit of rub.
There are a couple of rim manufactures that make rims with the same back space as stock. I belive Weld, and Center Line, I just used my stock rims, That just the look I like with my level kit. I also use a KORE kit with Toyo 35 12.5 17, in real world driving I do rub a tiny bit on my front right mud flap at full right lock.
