Default What the He11 gives?

Ok....just returned from another 1000 mile trip in the CTD. It now has 9300 miles on the odometer.

Filled up at Murphy USA added Drew's Brew and went on my way. I logged 18.6 mpg[&:]! I was really excited about the results. (calculated by hand)

On the return trip I filled up at a Pilot station, figured up the aforementioned mileage, added another batch of Drew's Brew and was off to what I thought was going to be another great day of saving fuel. Much to my demise I filled up when I returned to check mileage and it was freakin' 16.6[:@][:'(]! Weather was the same both up and back, temperature was within 2 degrees of both days, humidity was unchanged, speed was the same, used cruise control there and back.........what gives? Did the gravity of North pole pull me for 2 mpg better on the first leg of the trip? Was the fuel at Pilot that much inferior to Murphy USA?

Nonetheless, I met a fellow DF member at the Pilot station so we chatted it up for a few minutes. That was cool.

Does anyone have a clue as to why the mileage changed as it did?

Ive seen the exact same thing in gassers when changeing fuel from say. . .BP to exxon. one will get better mileage then the other. why, I have a suspession it is the addatives in the fuel itself. This may just be what you ran into that the pilot station's fuel might not have been as good as the stuff wally world had.

Dr.

I noticed the same thing when I got a tank of fuel from the Pilot truck stop in Sioux Falls, South Dakota last week while on vacation. The Pilot fuel gave me my lowest MPG [>:]of my whole trip to Oregon and back.

Hearing this I now feel somewhat better knowing I am not the only one that has had a problem with Pilot fuel. BTW, I too have got good MPG with fuel from Murphy USA here in IA.

After I have my Trans rebuilt, the wife and I are going to take a trip to Vegas in the truck, I think I will go with the 55 Gallon Aux. tank about empty, fill it and the main tank up in Nevada. I may get better milage with the Nevada fuel, besides the fuel cost here in Bakersfield is out of sight, even though there is a Flying J Ref. in town (the old Shell Ref.)

DR., I have one better for you. I fiiled up at a BP and added Drew's brew and when I got on the turnpike (5 miles from BP) I reset the trip computer. When I exited the turnpike it read 18.7. I was at the job site for about 1 hour then I got back on the turnpike to head south and re-set the trip computer and then when I exited it read 17.2...the cruise control was set at 73 the whole way and I did not have to tap the brakes or speed up either way....furthermore, I live in Florida and the roads where completely flat with the exception of two bridges. Now, what the HE!!??????

Two weeks ago I went to the coast witch is south for me in Texas . I was running with a 6.0 85 or 90 on the way there and got 14.9 mpg with a head wind. On the way back I followed my dad in his 05 ctd Quad-cab 4X4 short bed 2500 (stock) with the cruise sen on 72 and we both got right at 19mpg. If I drive right both ways it usally differs for 1.5 to 2.0 mpg with the winds.

I travel through Indiana twice a month. Indiana is flat all the way through, so it has to the Pilot fuel. I know that fuel in my area is not "formulated" as it is in some area's. Oh well, I guess I could get one of those auxillery fuel tanks and reach out the back window and feel her up..........er...........I mean fill her up as I am driving. Heck just think of the time you would save by not stopping.
