Default Clearance lights?

Hello everybody, I have an 06 2500 and am thinking of adding clearance lights to the top of the cab. I like the look of them but have no idea what they are really for. Does anyone know if they have any real use? Or are they just for looks.

Thanks, Tim

it is a DOT requirement to have them on trucks that exceed a certian width and height in stock form.

unless you have the template JUST right they will look horrable, Ive seen a job where the template was cut wrong and the lights were off center.

I have them on my truck and like them alot, they do look slick, but they can also be a pain when they start to leak if not sealed right.

I think the law is different in each state...
But here it has to do with trailer pulling.
