Default mechanic will not warranty lift pump

I have a 99 ctd 4x4 and have replaced the lift pump 3 times. the last one was n DEC. 05 while pulling a trailer a few days ago it started again stalling out just like before.i took it to the shop where i had it replaced it was on a Friday about 5:00 the guy check psi and said it was holding pressure but something was wrong because when you bump the key it only comes for about 1/2 sec. he said to bring it back on Monday. today when i brought it back he said nothing was wrong with the lift pump it was my fuel filter and trash in my tank. i paid him 60.00 bucks to change the filter but i cleaned out the tank myself and did not find anything in there. when i called the next day to let him know that there was no trash in the tank must be the lift pump he said then it must be you computer. has anyone else heard this before? is there a rely or something for the lift pump? is the lift pump hooked to the computer?when the key is turned on how long should it run?

if I were you I would find a good diesel shop and have them test your VP44. . .you may have dammaged it.

also with the lift pump, I have heard it only a few times, but some have actualy gotten a bad one out of the box.

if I were you I would dump the factory lift pump which is junk and replace it with a FASS or walbro setup.

They should run for close to 30 seconds after a key bump.
It should be really easy for the tech to use a voltmeter and see if the computer is providing a circuit to the pump.
If the circiut is not holding, then it would be the computer. But if you are getting voltage and ground for the full 30 seconds, you need a pump.

And you need to get this taken care of ASAP before the injection pump gets wiped out - like Drew said.
