truck pulls
i went to a neighboring county's fair last night for the "pulls". They had a diesel only class. you had to be under 8000 lbs and have a hitch in its factory location(some guys try to customize a hitch that is up under the truck closer to the rear axle), and you could not add weights. there were 13 trucks total - 8 dodges, 4 fords, and 1 chevy.
1st place - 06 dodge 3500 4x4 dually(bada$$)
2nd place - second gen dodge 24V 2500 4x4
3rd place - late model chevy 2500 4x4 with several hundred pounds of tractor weights on the floorboard -yes that is illegal
4th place - second gen dodge 24v 2500 4x4
5th place - second gen dodge 24v 3500 4x4 dually
6th place - 04 ford F350 SRW 4x4
7th place - 97 dodge 3500 4x4 dually
8th on was a mix of the rest of the fords and dodges
5 out of the top 7 went to dodges with CTD's. i think that sure says something.
no, i didn't pull my truck. still skeered i might drop a DS or something and have no way to work in the morning, although not 1 truck broke last night, other than some burning clutches.
maybe if you guys razz me enough i'll pull in the next one

most of those guys are sporting dual disk fe clutches. your basicaly letting the clutch slip untill you either reach about 75 feet or untill the tires light. Engine RPM's are around 4K and pushing well over 700 horse to the ground.
it is a sight to behold sometimes and the reason dodges are so good. . .the torque kicks in low and stays the same throughout the power band. the ford and chevy v8's have a torque curve more like a gasser. plus haveing 60% fewer parts to break in the inline config is another thing going for the cummins
you should try it. maybe in the stock class if anything.

Mat, I see you live near snellville. . .true, there arent too many truck pulls here, I know in October there are truck pulls at the fair grounds in Griffin, but it is only gassers, however there are the red neck nationals at the Albany Race way, some races for diesels only at the Atlanta drag way in Commerce, and some in Ringold I believe. Not many truck pulls in this area. you have to go to the mid west before you start seeing alot of truck pulls.
I live on the south side of Atl in Fayetteville BTW.

I have been looking for a full on pull. Tractors/trucks.
As a kid we went to Grassy Pond in SC. Two nights of 6 hours of pulls. Two years ago I went to the NC state fair and got to see some pulls, but it was just two classes and only about 2 hours worth at each event.
I have been going to the lawn pulls a lot, Uncle runs a few garden tractors in them.
May have to go to Ohio again next year, to see a good pull.

we got a couple up here in upstate NY never been to the local ones however I went to the Tractor trailor pulls in Amsterdam NY, it was unbelievable, if you guys ever get a chance to go to one of those you will be impressed. They run 4 turbo's propane you name it nothing like seeing a tractor trailer going down the strip with the front wheels off the ground.

i live in southern indiana and there are quite few pulls throughout the summer within an hour or two drive. i think there might be some pulls in southern kentucky. if i hear of any further south, i'll let everybody know. maybe you guys are up for a roadtrip. there are also a number of pulls in northern indiana. the guys from Scheid diesel, near Terre Haute are a treat to watch. they usually come to 1 or 2 of the pulls in southern indiana - it is something to see a truck pulling a sled at 40 mph, with a black smoke going 100 feet straight up.
If y'all hear of any good pulls in Utah let me know- Google sucks for looking this up. This is a hillbilly state so you would think theres one every weekend SOMEWHERE!!![>:] I realized before any pull- I am gonna upgrade my clutch. It sounds like a good Idea.
