Default Synthetic or Petrolium Based Oil?

So my first oil change is coming up, and I would like to do Shell Rotella synthetic, but it only comes in 5w-40, vs shell rotella petrolium 15w-40. The truck is never used in cold temperatures, and I would prefer synthetic, but I am worring about running too light of a weight of oil in it. What do other people use?

how many miles. . .if below 20K I would stick with dyno since the engine is still breaking in, above 20K most of the break in has happened and the switch is good.

I have the 5w-40 synth rottella and dont care for it much... it's coming out this week in favor of the previous oil that was in there... mobil delvac or 1400???? I forget what the bottle said but the swap is coming soon. my 1st impression of the synth rottella was not a good one. seemed like my milage took a dip right after the install. not sure why.

my preference would be mobil 1 but no-one has it anywhere.
