Hey guys,

I'm new to the community and just purchased an '06 Ram 2500 Cummins 4x4 auto and have a question about the dash indicator lights. The manual states that all of the lamps will light when the ignition key is initially turned to the "run" position. Most of them light up but several within the tach dial don't and I've never seen the "wait to start" light come on for the engine. The only one within the tach dial that does come on and then goes out is the "low windshield washer fluid".
I've only had the truck a few days and maybe it just hasn't been cold enough for the "wait to start" light to come on. It's in the low 70's at night and first thing in the mornings its never been colder than 70.
Also, should any of the drive indicator lights be illuminated? (ie. in 2wd, should that light be lit all the time)
Thanks!

RE: Dash lights question - Cummins
As per the 2006 service manual, the following lights will light up for a few seonds in the ON position "bulb test": ABS indicator, airbag indicator, brake/parking brake indicator, check gauges indicator, etc indicator [looks like a lightening bolt inside a ") ("], ESP BAS, low fuel indicator, MIL (looks like an engine), security indicator (its an "O"), SVC 4WD, tire pressure monitor indicator (its got a "!" in it), traction control, trans temp indicator (its got a thermometor looking thing), washer fluid, water in fuel.
NOTE: Some lights may not light up due to options you do not have (such as: ESP BAS and traction control is gasser only, and water in fuel and wait to start is diesel only).
The wait-to-start light will illuminate when the PCM says the air is "too cool for efficient and reliable engine starting."

The lights over there (which are: 4WD AUTO, 4WD, 4WD LOW, TOW/HAUL, and O/D OFF) will only be illuminated when a condition applies to their specific item (such as O/D being off, or you bring in 4WD).

*edit*
There is a way to test the gauges and all the bulbs:
With ignition switch OFF, press the odometer button, than turn the ignition to ON, than releast the odometer button. It will perform a bulb check and gauges test.

Thanks for the tips......
The lamps all work thanks to the tip by <dodgerules86>. However, not all of them came on for the few seconds per the manual, at least not the ones that correspond to my vehicle options. There is a sequence of numbers that scroll through the speedo display when this feature is enabled, is there a list to determine if they are relevant or not?
Per <Drew>, it would appear that the "wait to start" lamp will not come on unless the temps fall below 50F.

Thanks!

This is what comes up on the message center below the speedo......
The first letter/number/character is to the far left of the display and the second set of numbers is to the far right.....

5 (or "S") 116
, (comma) 281
C 447

These three lines scroll through until the gauge and lamp check function is complete. They come up three times during the test.

Any idea as to what they mean or represent?

Thanks!
