RE: New 06 CTD milage?
stock trucks are getting into the high teens... there are ways of improving it if he's not happy with it. thing to remember though is the mileage will suck until it gets broken in. do lots of towing or drive it like he stole it (so to speak)... it'll improve the milage over time... 20~30k miles...

RE: New 06 CTD milage?
My '06 MC got 17-19 out of the gate. After pulling a little and few miles (only 16K so far) I'm running about 19-22 (depends on which way thye winds blowin) unloaded highway. I also have a few mods , drop in filter and larger / free flow exhuast. I think the filter and exhuast help offset the extra HP I added with the BDTD.
As far as recalls I have only recieved 1 notice regarding a turnover valve(???) or something like that on the fuel tank. This was fixed the last time I had it in for regular service in about 15 min. Some say that this one is a pretty big deal though becouse it could allow water and muck in your tank.
No complaints, its great!

BlkRam.. I assume your mileage is hand calculated... my Overhead comp is almost useless... Others have said the same thing.
Mine was pushing 17~18 mpg when I 1st got it (it had 13.5k miles on it) when I put the tires on it dropped it down to the 16's. when I opend up the exhaust with a striaght thru setup (w/o kitty), it dropped even more. It actually went as low as 13's-14's. Added the tonneau cover and that gained back about .75 mpg, put the stock airbox back on for a long road trip and that bumped it back up another 1 mpg... now it's sitting at 15.5~16's and I added an ATS intake. low end got another boost and now i'm in the middle of checking mileage once again. it'll be interesting to see what it ends up at now. there is definately a low end boost with this intake...

Yeh, I started logging my milage, fuel, & MPG at about 4K.
I wish the overhead was right couse its gone as high as 24.9 @ 60 on some county roads! As far as the straight pipe and intake I saw the same drop in MPG. I quickly replaced the cat and the stock box with a drop in and it came back.
I have been reading your posts about that high ram intake and thinkin about going that route as well. I was lookin at them before but hadnt seen anyone use em. You say it has helped the MPG and low end which is reason enogh to get it.
The manufacturers are saying they help increase spool up time as well.
Is that what your butt is feelin in low end or can you notice the dif. That could explain the extra MPG as well?
Either way sounds like a good "extra thingy" as my wife calls the mods!

Yeah, in stock form (tires and all) I was seeing as high as 22.5 Avg. over a tank of fuel. Since putting on the 34" tires and intake system it has dropped to 15.0 - 16.0 per tank. I new going to the larger tires wouldn't help but I thought it might improve at highway speeds as the truck now revs at below 2,000 @ 70 MPH. Anyway I think it looks better with the bigger tires, and I'm going to start looking at improving the MPG in other ways. Speaking of which I used Drew's Brew in my wifes Jetta TDI and the milage went up considerably. Of coarse I halfed everything since it only holds about 14 gallons. So far a half tank has lasted 500 miles and this is averaging 75 - 80 MPH. I am going to start using it in the CTD as soon as I get it back from the dealership tomarrow (new U joint and some other odds and ends).

the open intake & open exhaust definately help turbo the spool up quicker, with the AFE intake, the upper rpms are awesome so it is a tradeoff. just depends on what you want out of your truck. Me... I want a balance of both upper & performance & low end performance. it will take time to get there but I know the right balance is there for me.
BlkRam... I have the ATS Arcflow intake... some have reported a performance loss with the high ram intake, do some research and find out all you can before you buy. My 1st tank since the intake install was 15.3 mpg. I spent most of the time hammering it so it's about what I expected. I have my right foot a little more under controll this tank so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out. I'll keep you guys posted.
