looking to purchase ram 2500 cummins
Hi, My name is Brian,
I have been thinking about getting a ram 2500 cummins for sometime now and I would appreciate any help with a few questions regarding my future purchase. I tow a trailer for camping and fishing.
1) Does anybody know what the MPG is when towing around 6-7 thousand pounds?
2) Do I need to get any special gears ration (optional) for towing - somebody mention that I should get somekind of option gearing from dodge?
3) Are the trucks any noiser that other brands of diesels
Thank you for the help, and I would appreciate any insight available

towing you should see around 15mpg
if you get the towing package they have an opyional 4:10 gear ratio.
Dodge has done a whole lot in order to make the cummins quiet. Ive rode in and stood next to all of the newer diesels and they are all about the same as far as noise goes

6000-7000 lbs the standard rear end is fine.
I have customers that pull far more than the vehicle is rated for.... far more.
And they get along with the 3.55s.
Any later model ones, 3rd gen, will have 3.73s and will do what you want to do with ease.

I have a '97 Cummins which I bought new. I get 15-17 mpg while towing and I have the 4:10 ratio. Noise isn't bad at all while driving but drive through windows, you have to turn off the engine.
The Cummins sounds like music.
