Default squeek

I have a 98 2500 cummins that squeeks(somewhere beetween a squeek and a grumble, might even be a thunk). there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, although it hasen't done it at an Idle.
It kinda seem like something slipping and then catching, but doen't fit in the catagory of any tranny slippage that I have experenced, which isn't much. I was thinking it might be a belt tensioner but am not really sure. I was hoping for some advice as where to look first
any helpl would be apreaciated
