Newbie who wants to mod. Need some advice
Hey there everybody. I'm new to diesel and the dodge family with my 06' 2500 quad cap six speed HO CTD. and now i want to mod the living **** out of it! However it is my daily driver. I'm looking into lifting it and giving it some engine work. I was wondering what you guys have had luck with and what wasn't such a good idea.
Hi new guy, I have a 2006, Quadcab, 4x4. I put Bully Dog, K&N, and Aero Turbine exhaust on the engine. The exterior I put Hell Bent Steel 2" lift spacers on the front, and X-tangs tonneau cover that tilts up. I'm pretty happy with my engine performance, I run pretty quick with this setup, but of course it's all about how much money you wanna spend. Some guys here have some pretty good and wild setups and they'll be glad to share. If you have any questions, just ask.
just got my TST working over the weekend, all I have to say is on a stock truck anything over 5/3 and you can say godbye to the stock clutch as it WILL NOT hold the power this thing can push, and thats not even 50% of the power this box can generate.
the fuel lift pump is in the fuel tank, and it is the same crappy carter pump DC has been useing that loves to die unexpectedly. FASS or a Walbro kit will keep the fuel pressure and flow to the CP3 high enough that your main concern will be running the rail dry if you have too much power.
some stage I injectors are a good way to increase power without adding electronics as well as upgradeing the turbo once EGT's become an issue, 1350F+ is where you need to look at backing off. also the stock turbo can only push a max of 45 before bad things happen, 40 is a good stopping point since that is where the effency mapping of the turbo goes down. stock I can peg 35# easy. my TST on 4/3 will push the peg past 35 and turbo no longer makes noise and egt's are pushing 1300F if I'm not careful.
as long as you can keep boost and egt's under control the truck will run fine, but dont add too much pressure to the fuel rail or you will crack an injector or blow the pressure check valve and that bad boy of over $200.

I have the same thoughts, I would love for my truck to spit fire and flames out of the tailpipe, but I also want it to last for a couple hundred thousand miles. I keep my programmer on the lowest setting, but this combined with the intake and exhaust gives it plenty of power. On the middle setting I can usually beat anything on the road, and it's a blast to drive through traffic, mainly b/c nobody expects this big a$$ truck to move like it does. My wifes afraid to drive it (which is a good thing, lol). I started withe K&N intake kit, then the Tripple Dog, and then the Aero Turbine. So far I haven't had a single problem. The stretch of pipe that has the cat is clamped and not welded, so in a couple of months when I'm back home, I'm gonna get a piece of 4" pipe cut and bent to fit and change it out,,, this way if I take a long trip I can put the cat back on so it won't be so loud.
gages would be the first thing. you need to see what numbers your truck produces stock.
but to tell you the truith you need to see what your local stealer thinks about certian upgrades. some will void the entire warrany if you have a K&N filter, others will cut you a deal and tell you you have one more tranny to blow before you start paying. Certian items are dealer only items and there has to be authorization from STAR before the part can be released. or you can become your own warranty station like I am. I drive right past Cummins South here in ATL to and from work, plus I have a laundry list of places to get these certian dealer parts(CP3, Rail relief valve, crank/cam sensors)

for those of us not quite ready to do our own warranty work, if we talk to the dealer about their "opinions" on upgrades, who should we actually talk to?
and since you are atlanta based are there and stealers you like better than others or have had dealings with? (I'm on the northwest side, marietta woodstock, etc)

STAR is the entity that deals with most warranty work.
anyhoo, my truck has seen the dealer only once since I bought it in august 04. I had the drip edge seal replaced. they didnt say anything about my gages. infact the service writer liked the look, this was at the Landmark on Mt. Zion in Jonesboro.
any other work I do myself. I have acess to a press and any other special tool includeing an OBDII scanner
