Default New Ram 2500 CTD Owner!

I just purchased a brand new '06 2500 CTD last week. This is my first Diesel, and I have a couple questions (not about synthetic oil changes, timing, break in, etc...)

1) The truck came with a factory installed bug sheild. Is it worth also getting a clear bra behind it? I've noticed that the hood is pretty flat. Curious if anybody has done one.

2) Spray in bedliner - I do not plan on using the bed to it's fullest potential anytime soon; the truck is my daily driver to and from work. Is it really worth spending the money on a bedliner right now? Any problems in keeping the bed as is; painted, no scratches - then do the bedliner later?

3) Factory installed Sirius - I have an aftermarket Alpine that I would like to put in (XM and Sirius ready), and am wondering if I can salvage the sirius receiver or antenna. I'd just hate to rerun all those wires.

4) Does anybodys engine 'growl' louder when the A/C is on?

Thanks for any input!

-Bret

I make mine "growl" whenever possible

don't go to syn's until you reach the 20,000ish mark

I have a spray in bedliner. I did however wait for a few weeks. They scuff the surface prior to spraying it in anyways.

I do not have a bug shield......cuz I don't likem'

Enjoy your truck and this BBS........they guys on here are great.

Its unfortunant but what I have read there are no adapters for the factory sirius to an aftermarket head unit. I dont know if no one offers them or its just not possible to make the connection.

I beleive you can use the antenna on the truck to hook into a Sirius reciever. If you get the owners manual (under merry christmas above) it shows the Sirius reciever under the back seat with a wire going to the antenna. Might be worth a look.
I am a big fan of the spray in liners. I haven't installed one in this truck yet, but my last one had it. I rarely used it, but when I did, it was nice to not have to worry about scratches or dents in the bed. My motor does not growl with the A/C on, but you can tell when the compressor kicks on because it drags the RPMs down just a tick.

got line-x in the bed over the rails and also going down the rockers. . .love it and worth the money I put down for it

on the break in from 0-500 miles be careful with the throttle since the tranny and axel bearings are wearing in, 500+ drive it like you stole it below 20K on the odometer keep with dino, there are certian wear-in items, rings and rod-crank caps that the synthetic stuff will actualy prevent proper initial wear-in. after 20K these items have been worn in good and the switch to synthetics is good. Ive been keeping track of my mileage since my truck came off the lot. The two things that have increase my mileage the most was 1. 16oz Power Service and 8oz MMO per tank, and 2. switching all fluids to Amsoil. the mix gave me nearly a 3mpg gain, and the two tanks of fuel I have run since I switched to Amsoil averaged .8mpg more over the stock stuff.

on these trucks, the axels, transfer case, and tranny's have synthetics, only the engine has dino from the factory.

and about the growl, mine does it from just off idle to 1500rpm, 1600 and up the growl turns into a 747 taking off and I dissapear in a black cloud of death

Thank you everybody for your replies. I'll probably just spend the $100 and get the Alpine compatible Sirius tuner. RustProofCorn, I'll make sure I contact you if I end up going that route.

Regarding the Sirius receiver. I pulled my back seat out (2006 2500 CTD) and it wasnt there. I finally found it behind the dash above and to the right of the glove box. You can only see it if you open the glove box too... Drove me nuts trying to find the thing.

I have to admit, the years free service is nice and I'm really begining to like it.

One Word of advice... Do not listen to the uncensored the comedy channel while driving. Its really hard to drive when you laugh so hard you cant keep your eyes open...
