HELP!!!!!!!! Lift Pump
Ok so most of you know I was waiting on a pusher pump from the dealer for week and half. Well took truck in yesterday and finally got it back this morning. (Half day job?! Yeah right!) Any ways get in my truck and fuel PSI says 8 when idleing- when I give it gas it drops to 1- then 0. Even a little acceleration does it. What is going on? I took it back and the mechanic said cause its in the tank now and not stock by injector pump thats the way it should be. He originally told me 15 is what it should be. He said if it drops below 4 let him know. Well sure enough it did and they keep saying its fine without even putting a gauge on it in front of me. This was warranty work and thru this mess it expired on me. This happen to anyone? What to do?

it's a carter pump and it's crap. . .
I hate to say it but you're gunna be stuck on this one. you can either one, pay out the keester to have it replaced with another crappy carter pump. or. when the tank gets low, dont let it suck fumes, hot diesel will hurt the VP44, remove the tank, yank out the pump, install a big line kit and install either a FASS or walbro kit. and also install the tank vent line kit. it will give you an extra 5 or so gallons more capacity in the tank.

Thanks Drew...... [:@] I called around and they quit selling the Walbro for my 01' Dodge. Any ideas. Fass is to much right now. Or do you think I can drive for a month the way it is?
Check your fuel filter. I've got an 01 and the lift pump was replace with the same in-tank pump you have. My fuel pressure was just about 0 because the fuel filter needed to be changed. It only had 1500 miles on it. Normally they last 15k miles or better, but I changed it and now the PSI is around 5 on a load and 10 at idle. I'll probably put a FASS on this winter as one of my winter projects.
Sweet- Appreciate this. One place told me to change the fuel filter- it is a month old. But did do a reading on it yesterdqay and it does drop to 0. SCARY. They said they can do a FASS system installed for $600. Sound good? or no? Rather be cautious than nautious.

CowboyBob- Thanks for the info- but it didn't work. I replaced it last month and agaon last night. The lowest I have dropped with the new filter so far was 1, And stills stays around 7-9 at idle. Guess Im getting the Fass system a little earlier than I planned.

Did you have to replace the VP44 shortly after?

DREW help me on this one, but when the pump was put in the tank, they should have flashed the ECU??? Help me understand this one---If the pump is on the side of the motor 26psi with a foot of line and them it is moved to the tank with 10 feet of line; how does it still have the same 26psi without a software upgrade??? i baffled a service advisor with that one---and never went back.
