Keeping upto 05 6.0l PSD Frd
Hey guys I've been looking at the forums for a couple of weeks now. I'm looking for a truck that will keep upto my friends FORD when we go down to yellowstone next winter. I've been down there twice with him now. He has a 6.0 liter chip and no other mods(air filter). He runs around 80-85mph with a four place inclosed ski-doo trailer. He has never had any problems with this truck or the 03 we went down with. what should I be looking for in A dodge. Rear end, auto or manual, mods. Open to any sugestions. I don't want to be the one holding up the group because I'm partial to Dodge. Thanxs
Well, if you get the Cummins you won't be the one holding up the group. When that 6.0 starts puking anti-freeze, blowing seals, the turbo cruds up from the EGR, the injectors fail, or the intercooler tubes blow off, you'll be draggin him and his trailer to the destination. The 6.0 does not respond happily (for very long) to mods.
I just got rid of my '04 SD for this '06 CTD and I'll never go back. This thing is flat awesome compared to my SD. This thing, bone stock, has more power than I can even contemplate using fully.
Don't worry about keeping up with him........I have to worry about slowing down.

I would go with a closer ratio gear set in the rearend. I got 4.10's and I don't think I could go 85. I run outa rpms at about 75.

I have the same problem Jacob, NV5600 w/4.10's. I can pull a house off the foundation and through the next state without breaking a sweat. but that also means my RPM's are up there at highway speeds. 70rpm I'm turning 2300rpm. the auto /3.73's would be doing nearly 90 at 2300rpm.
yeah, and with the bigger tires, it's even less than 2300... i think i'm turning 18~1900 @ 70.

That sucks guys, at 80 I'm only spinning about 2300. I didn't even really know about the gear difference when I bought the truck, I sure am glad that I have what I have b/c I really don't ever tow or haul anything.
