Quuestion on EGT's for Ford. Sorry!
My friend has a 6.0 Ford and when he tows uphill his EGT's exceed 1400 to 1500. He has Edge with Monitor. His truck will go down to 45 MPH. But when unloaded he zips around like a rocket and everything is good. Trailer is big but wouldn't bog my Dodge down much so not the problem.
Anyone know what it could be?

RE: Quuestion on EGT's for Ford. Sorry!
I can't imagine that 1400-1500 degrees is UNacceptable with any motor. If he's running that many degrees, my questions would be:
Does the truck have a larger exhaust
Doesn't the Edge product defuel or have an alarm to warn of hight temps? Almost sounds like it's being not being defueled. Check the wiring harnesses closely. I am pretty sure there is a way to test that Edge product with a multi-meter.
I can take my CTD up to 1500 degrees for a 10 second demo or to check the gauge. I would never allow my motor to run that hot for any considerable length of time. Make sure the truck is not lugging at all. That makes EGT's skyrocket instantaneously. Downshift perhaps?
Those are the perils when you install "electronic dreams" for your truck.....lol.
There's a few things it could be. Just my thoughts.
2nd gens rule because all the upgrades are mechanical. No plug N play for me.
Good luck.

if the egt's are on short bursts it wont hurt too much. most tractor pullers and racers dont even look at the EGT gage since it is pegged when the pull begins. going over 2000F is not uncommon dureing those types of events.
however on a stock truck the Cummins can handle ~1350F for a little bit before things go bad, 1200F is nothing but is getting warm. the first thing to go would be the turbo, then the valves. on the Ford Engine with the head being aluminum, it cannot handle high heat, it doesnt matter how cool the water flowing thorugh the block is, somethings gunna give when you use aluminum. granted it is a great metal to use, the internal pressures that are generated in a Diesel engine are not too friendly to alot of aluminum components.

Thanks all- I learned his turbo went out. He drilled 4" a hole in his inner grill and truck runs better and no more problems, EGT's stay down. But we know the damage has been done. I think he's gonna trade it in now- or atleast try. He does have 4" exhaust. Thanks a lot though.
