Default Ram 4500 and 5500

Has anyone heard anything on these? According to Dodge the 4500 is modeled after the 1500 and the 5500 after the 2500. When I bought my truck it had 5500 badging on it yet the VIN comes up as a 2500. I went to Dodge and they checked it out and said it has everything that the 5500 will have, the beefier trans, 1 ton running gear,4.5" exhaust and a larger down tube just for starters. Any ideas what is up? My truck has a towing cap. of 23,900 lbs according to the door sticker yet the 2500 according to Dodge was only rated at 16,000 lbs.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hmmmm...my brother-in-law has a Chrysler Insipid - modeled after the Intrepid - do you suppose it's in the same genre?

To the best of my knowledge Dodge does not, did not make a 4500 or a 5500 truck in 2005. I think you have a re-badge 2500, which is one where someone cuts off the 2 and puts back on a 5 so it would look like it was a 5500.

If a Dealer told you this {I went to Dodge and they checked it out and said it has everything that the 5500 will have} then they were pulling your leg. But if they believed what they had to say to you then I think I would run away and never do business with them.

JMHO and $0.02 worth

Actually, I was being a little sarcastic about the Insipid - I actually know a few people who have gone and bought the badging to change a letter or two - if you're real clever you can find another model with the same font and really be creative...I have to hand it to Sharx or whomever sold him the truck - I thought about changing my 2500 badging for fun but he beat me to it - as it is, I did add a letter "B" to my rear gate "Heavy Duty" for a few reasons...and I get some dealers' salespeople asking me if that was a special package...

you can find the 4500 and 5500 in mexico. they also have the new 6.7L to boot.

the 4/5500's are comeing, and from what Ive heard the 4500 will still look like the ram, but the 5500 might not.
