I have asked this question before an no one answered so I will try again. I have an 01 CTD and the lift pump has been replaced with an in-tank pump. Has anyone else put a FASS unit on a truck that had an in-tank pump? Here is the problem I am having.

The in-tank pump also replaces the sending unit. If I purchase the model of FASS system for my 01, it will pull the fuel through the electric in-tank pump. First of all I don't think this will work very well if at all. I don't want my FASS unit pulling the fuel through a dead pump. I also do not want to have to purchase a new sending unit. The only thing I can see doing is drilling a hole in the top of the fuel tank and installing a new draw tube of some type so the FASS unit can pick up fuel with out going through the dead in-tank pump. Has anyone else solved this problem??

I havent read on up this and how to utilize the FASS with the fuel tank mounted lift pump. your solution does sound very good, but you would need to drop the tank in order to do this. I'm also sure you could hit up a junk yard for a sending unit off a wrecked truck.

 

Actually I am going through this now. They put the pusher pump in my tank and rewired it. The place I am going through to get my FASS said it will be kinda difficult to do but they are dropping the tank and pulling the pusher pump out, installing a vent tube then rewiring the fass under the hood. Totally eliminating the death pusher pump. You should still have your harness for the wire. Remount it under the hood but take old pump out and install the tube. You have to drop the tank anyway. Hope this helps.

You will either need to reinstall the OEM sender basket and pickup, or drill th hole. the hole is not very hard or critical. Just make sure you run the tank down, or use the inta pump to drain it. This is how I do all my installs.
