turbo spools weird
ok so im noticed that my turbo spools weird sometime il get on it it spools like a bat outta hell.. other times il get on itand it takes a little while they spools up and by that time its already time to shift into the next gear... also i noticed that if i get on it from a dead stop and use 1st gear ( 6 speed manual 06 2500 4x4) which is L not 1 and is extremly low the turbo seems to spool better as i rake through the gears... now i know the SRT 4 neons have the computer programes tim limmit booast in 1st and possily part of 2nd gear for traction issues... now do these ecms recognize useing 1st gear and possibly change booast propertys?? i dont know.. i was talking to a guy next door who is an engineer for power stroke BOOOOOOOOO but anyway hes like the way the turbo spools and booasts is all in the mapping and all that jazz soo get a chip and ul be happy... so im liek OK just wanna make sure theres no issues before i go chipping and whaling on this bad boy.... any of u guys know anything bout this??? now i have a 2nd question at about 1300 ish miles i noticed when i come on booast theres like a chirping noise only when the turbo spools kinda sounds like on a VW when the turbo bypass valve fails but dont thin these have on of those now the noise is comming from the drivers side and ive looked and theres realling nothing there but tubing the intake manifolds there and intercooler pipes no valves solinoids liek on a TDI to go bad??? any of you guys have or heard of that????
thanks a million if u can help!!!!

sounds normal to me. the way these engine run is through a High Pressure Common Rail. this rail is pressurized anywhere from 5,000-23,000 PSI. and when the turbo isnt boosting like it should the rail pressure is low cause the computer had set the CP3 pump back, now the computer is requsting fuel from the CP3 but your also dumping the pressure it is trying to build. this is normal and I get it all the time. there is no boost limit, only the waste gate that is set at 26# (but Ive hit past 40
)
the chirping noise sounds liek it could be turbo bark, but that would only be when your changeing gears or dumping the clutch under high boost conditions, what it is I dont know but if it gets worse there may be another problem. The only guys that I know that have BOV's are racers and pullers to keep pressure spikes to a minimum.

Chirping noise could be from a loose air-to-air pipe clamp, or a small hole or crack in the pipe. Drew, are the 3rd gens egr engines? If so the eratic boost could be from the egr cycling. I know its a common complaint on I.H's vt365's and dt466's.
these engines DO NOT have EGR's. the erratic boost is from the low pressure in the fuel rail which is normal. you can get some stage I, II, or the big brother CP3's that will keep the pressure up even when the computer is not demanding it, or use a pressure fooling box on the lowest setting to keep the rail pressure a little higher.
