Back to reality, there have been rumors about everything. A few years back, they were "most certainly" going to offer MB diesels in the Ram, and perhaps replace the Cummins with the MB. Well, that never happened.
If, and that's a HUGE IF, they ever replace the Cummins, they would probably offer a MB diesel (since, DC owns MB). But, with the new Cummins coming in 2007, and the sales that the Cummins brings in for Dodge (think about that people that switch to Dodge because of the Cummins), the reputation Cummins has, I don't think Dodge will be the one to not renew a contract, and it only makes money for Cummins.
I wouldn't believe rumors until there are offical releases from one of the companies. They both stand to loose, not gain, if Dodge drops Cummins.
you can go to Cummins web site and in there they say that #1, Ford DOES NOT own Cummins. Cummins is the only stand alone engine manufacturer in the world.
#2, the contract DC has with Cummins to supply engines for the 2/3500's is through 2012 a few years back I remember hearing about a Cat C7 under the hood of a 3500 dually. but there had to be extensive frame mods since that C7 is a heavy mother. plus it was a gutless pig. Ive driven C7 equiped trucks. they are rather gutless untill the turbo catches up, but they still dont run like the ISB.
the Cummins is still going to be under the hood of the 2/3500's for many years to come.
