Default New 07 Meagacab 5.9!!!

I just traded my 03 Hemi, QC, 4X4 off road pack for 07 Megacab Diesel 4x4 and love it. Just 650 miles on in a week. I just want to drive it but work keeps getting in the way. Any thing major to note for the new megacab diesels? This is my first diesel, I have been working on gas motors for a while, 15+ years, at least performing all my own maintanence. What is the best oil to use for the weather in the inland empire of SoCal. I read this forum from time to time alot of good info ie.... the grease fittings. I don't trust dealers!

I can't speak to Megacabs - I opted for long bed instead. But I did live in SoCal with a CTD, and I used the mfr-recommended oil without any problems. Have you ever used Moss Bros in San Bernadino for service? I always had good luck with them when I lived there...

congrats on the new truck, welcome to DF...

use dino oil (delvac or delo 400) for the 1st 30~35k miles, tow as much as you can with it or toss in some weight in the bed to help it break in. at 10~12k miles i'd recommend a fuel filter change... there is a DIY tread at the top of the forum to help you out. it's easy and only takes 10~15 minutes max.

when can we see some pics?

I chose Delvac 1300 super for my 06 2500 4x4 5.9L HO cummins, but why do you say just for the first 30-35K? Isn't this good oil for the life of the engine?

uh, ok... what I ment to say was if your going to switch to synthetics wait until 30~35k so the motor has enough time to break in, you should still swap you oil when you feel comfortable doing so but no later than what the mfgr recommends. sorry guys, my bad. probably got interupted while writing it.

thanks that where I thought you were going but wasn't sure. Also Cummins did exclusive testing and found no benifits to switching to Syn. engine oils in their tests on their engines. I've always been tought to use reg. oil and change often, like the book says some crazy number like 11,500 miles! Oil is so much cheaper than a engine. I work at a fleet shop and we(I) change our Cats engine oil at 100-150Hrs, and have not had any problems yet using Delvac.
