boost and black smoke
Ladies and gentlemen, I have a couple questions for you all. I have a 2001 CTD, Auto and blah blah. I have an AFE Cold air intake and my exhaust is straight through. I wonder how I can get more boost out of her, and how I can stop traffic with some good old black soot? Can any one tell me how to do these two options, please?
More fuel. I have a 95' and I changed my delivery valves. I am pretty sure that your truck does nor have a Bosch p7100. I try not to memorize anything except 95's.....lol. If you're not going to change your turbo, then you need to give the motor more fuel. You will probably also want to mess around with your wastegate. I hear of guys buying some kind of brass elbow and fittings, and making an adjustable type setup for their turbos. I changed mine to a PDR hybrid turbo. I think I have a 40 turbine and a 45 compressor. I have my wastegate set to only generate 30lbs MAX and then dump. I don't need high pressures because I am moving a larger volume of air. 30 lbs of boost on your truck is not the same as 30 lbs on mine. Hope that wasn't too confusing...lol.
Now another thing to remember is, with more fuel comes more heat. Higher EGT's. A bigger exhaust can take care of that. I have a true 5 inch from the turbo back. When I do 70-72 on the highway, my EGTs are about 775-850. Even less in the winter.
You have to tinker with your rig. You'll find a setup that pleases you.
Good luck.

Check ebay for dodge ram turbo, or something along those lines. Maybe even google. I never bought one so I hate to steer you in the wrong direction.
I would think even starting a new thread would get you some answers pretty quick.

your 01 has the dredded VP44. better keep some MMO handy since that pump needs lots of lube.
if you want more boost then you'll need a boost fooler elbow. what this does is bleed off some of the boost pressure away from the waiste gate to achieve higher boost #.
now if you want to smoke like a freight train look at Mads Electronics and check out the smarty tuner. this thing has the baddest 30horses you will ever get, and it can get smokey too.
right now I can crank my TST up above 6/6 and shut down intersections. . .it's fun

If you bet the edge comp box, it comes with a restriction to plug the waste gate. Stock, I was getting about 23 psi. with the edge I'm getting about 35 psi. Also on level 5, I can't see the car behind me. Just one thing bad, don't expect the trans to last too long. I ended up swaping the auto for a 6-speed after I burnt it up playing with the box.
