Turbo Question????
This may be normal so don't jump on me to bad.... Whenever I'm running 65mph and up and back completley off the gas you can still hear a whining noise. Is this normal, I usually just heard the turbo when I got on the accelerator.
welcome to DF...
no one here will ever jump on you for asking a question... so with that said, sounds like you could have an air leak... is it there all the time or does it go away. how is the power? has it dropped off at all?

It doesnt do it when you are going through the gears, but once you get to 65mph you can back off the accelerator and you can hear it whine until it gets to about 40mph coasting... I cant tell that I've lost any power, so If I have its at a minimal... Steve thanks for the reply your info is appreciated... And by the way I've owned all the trucks Ford, Chevy, and Dodge and nothing compares to the Dodge with the CTD period....
I've never noticed how long it lasts, but it is normal to hear the turbo spin down after a loaded acceleration... Hope this helps.

start by eliminating what you can... turn off your a/c & fan so that's out of the system. that will turn off the clutch on the compressor....
hey, now it rings a bell... do this, when you get off the gas and can hear the noise, lightly get back on the gas and see if it goes away. if it does then your rearend is not set quite right. I had this same issue with a gear swap that I had done to my 2000 4x4... you could hear it whine while you were off the gas but only when you were up to speed.... above 40~45 mph.
try to figure out under what conditions it happens, throttle, no throttle, load/no load etc.
oh and another thing that comes to mind, when I was on my CTD hard going up a hill, I had a turbo surge that barfed up the wastegate... it sounded funny and lost some power. it whined at all speeds... or I should say whistled like the wastegate was stuck open. did something happen before this started or has it been there all along?

My 06 Mega Cab does the same thing, In my case it is the turbo, The bigger the load behind the truck the louder it is, When the Trans. goes to 2nd gear you can really hear it sucking air (spining faster). And I love that noise ...............
